Planning statutes from all 50 states is analyzed to determine how well they address contemporary planning issues. It also describes recent legislative efforts at modernizing planning statutes.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation, chartered by Congress in 1949, is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting historic buildings and the neighborhoods and landscapes they anchor.

The Division of Local Government provides training and technical assistance to local governments and community organizations throughout the state and helps local officials solve problems involving basic powers and duties, public works, municipal organization, planning, land use and regulatory controls, and community development. One of the goals of the Division is to serve as a "one-stop-shop" for New York's local governments.

Regional Plan Association is an independent regional planning organization. Since 1922, RPA has worked to improve the quality of life in the 31-county New York-New Jersey-Connecticut metropolitan area by creating long-term comprehensive plans and promoting their implementation across political boundaries.

The District provides educational services to children from the Towns of Rhinebeck and portions of Clinton and Milan from Kindergarten through the 12^th grade at the Chancellor Livingston, Bulkeley Middle School and Rhinebeck High School. Tri-State Transportation Campaign is an alliance of public interest, transit advocacy, planning and environmental organizations working to reform transportation policies in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut metropolitan region. TSTC works to reverse automobile dependence and sprawl development by revitalizing and extending public transit and rail freight systems, reining in highway expansion and providing for foot and bicycle travel in transportation plans and projects.
